How long have you been coming to Saco Sports & Fitness?
Since November 07
What made you decide to start coming?
I am a breast cancer survivor, diagnosed at age 39. I survived the ups and downs of chemotherapy and many reconstructive surgeries. I beat cancer yet I was not able to beat my lifelong struggle with the scale. I've been a yo-yo dieter since I was 2 yeas old, or so it feels! I had grown passive. I would think of being skinny and think of exercising, yet I'd sit on the couch and eat cake. It was time to conquer the fat! It was time to be a weight loss survivor.
Have you been able to reach your goals?
I have reached many mini goals with my ultimate weight loss goal still in sight. I've dropped 5 pants sizes and a total of 64lbs. are gone. My last 15 lbs. and 6 inches from my waist and hips (6.8% body fat) have been lost since joining the gym.
If yes, how did you accomplish that and did have help and/or support?
My weight loss began, as always, with a fad diet, did some Atkins, did some Fat Smash. I knew I had to skip the term "diet" and just eat healthy and incorporate exercise. I came to Saco Sport & Fitness with clear goals in mind: weight loss, weight management, and muscle building. I was hooked up with Linda Burgess, Master Trainer. It has been an excellent match. I am losing weight, eating healthier, and working out weekly with Linda to build muscle. Oh, and I couldn't have lost weight without Spinning. Spinning's the bomb!
What are your health/fitness plans for the future?
I want to be whole, mind and body, Where my weight is no longer an issue, where food is used to fuel my body, not used as my vice. I want to pose with my new body and show women with breast cancer that life and beauty is possible after the valiant struggle to survive. I plan to continue with my workouts until my goals have been obtained.
